Dr. William H. Parker is board-certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecologists and is an elected Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. He has managed the unusual by having a successful private practice and a very impressive academic medical career. Dr. Parker is a Clinical Professor at the UCLA School of Medicine and is in private practice in Santa Monica, California. |
Dr. Parker is chair, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Saint John's Hospital and Health Center and the former Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center. Dr. Parker was elected President of the American Association of Gynecological Laparoscopists in 2000, an international association of over 4,000 gynecologists from 53 countries, after serving on its Board of Trustees for many years.
Dr. Parker served two terms as an Editor of The Journal of the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists and is now on the editorial advisory board. He is also a Reviewer for the journals Obstetrics and Gynecology, Journal of the American Association of Gynecological Laparoscopists, New England Journal of Medicine, Journal of Gynecologic Techniques, American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Fertility and Sterility.

Expertise
Dr. Parker is a frequent lecturer and teacher of advanced surgical techniques both in the United States and abroad. He has expertise in advanced laparoscopic surgery and advanced hysteroscopic surgery. He has published extensively on his research in the areas of laparoscopic hysterectomy, ovarian cyst surgery and treatment for fibroids, including laparoscopic myomectomy and abdominal myomectomy for large fibroids. Dr. Parker is certified by the Accreditation Council of Gynecologic Endoscopy for both laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery. Dr. Parker is a member of the American Urogynecologic Society and is an attending physician at the Pacific Continence Center. He is also a Certified Menopause Clinician with the North American Menopause Society.
Training
Dr. Parker received his B.A. degree at Rutgers University and received his M.D. degree from Downstate Medical Center. He did his internship and residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of California, San Diego. Since completing his formal medical specialty education, Dr. Parker has actively pursued training in areas of particular interest to him, including gynecological surgery, laparoscopic surgery, and the treatment of uterine fibroids.
Women's Healthcare Books
Dr. Parker is the author of the highly-acclaimed, best-selling and just revised woman's health book, A Gynecologist’s Second Opinion: the Questions and Answers You Need to Take Charge of Your Health (Penguin/Plume). Dr. Parker is also co-author (with Dr. Amy Rosenman) of the just published The Incontinence Solution: Answers for Women of All Ages (Simon and Schuster, 2002).
Awards and Honors 
Dr. Parker has been chosen for Best Doctors in America and Top Doctors since the late 90's. He has received numerous awards for his medical/surgical expertise and compassionate care of patients. Among those awards are the prestigious Distinguished Physician of the Year and the Resident's Teaching Award both coming from Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center.
